James H. Gruft, MD
Dr. James Gruft, founder of From Pain To Wellness LLC, received his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine. He was the medical director of one of the oldest pain management programs in the Chicago for more than 14 years before establishing his pain-management practice From Pain To Wellness LLC.
Dr. Gruft is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (P.M. & R.) and Pain Medicine (D.A.B.P.M.). Voted as Best Doctor for the years 2002 to present via a nationwide survey of doctors, Dr. Gruft is respected by physicians throughout the country as “one of the premier pain specialists practicing today.”
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, a diplomat of the American Board of Pain Medicine, and a member of the following medical organizations:

Sudhakar Rajamoney, PT, COMT

Sudhakar Rajamoney received his degree in Physiotherapy from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. He was trained at Vellore in Muscle Energy Technique. This, along with his exposure to traditional Indian healing arts, has forever changed the way he treats the spine. He integrates this along with various treatment approaches by Cyriax, Janda, Maitland, Mckenzie, Butler, Travell as well as Strain Counterstrain, Myofascial Release and Kinesiotaping Techniques.
As a Certified Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist, his focus is not just treating the symptoms but also educating and thereby empowering individuals to take an active part in their health.
He believes in the physical, emotional and spiritual connection and its importance on the journey towards wellness.
Jill L. Allen, Psy.D
Dr. Allen earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University, while serving with the Illinois State Police. She went on to continue her studies in Forensic Psychology, becoming the Department Psychologist for the Illinois State Police and Chief of Staff for the Bureau of Identification, assisting a premier law enforcement agency with wellness programs, critical incident, crisis intervention and psychological consultation. A retired Sergeant, she is a consulting police psychologist to State, County and local law enforcement agencies; a certified Life Coach, Mediator, and Adjunct Faculty member at Argosy University.
Dr. Allen’s personal mission is to provide a holistic perspective in the practice of psychology. She incorporates biological, psychosocial and spiritual approaches; committed to identifying the interventions and special needs of each client. After all, pain is a personal experience. In order to treat it we need to be able to measure it. Incorporating assessments of pain-specific measures, psychosocial factors and distress, she works as part of a multi-disciplinary team, striving to journey into the experience of each client, in an effort to coach and help people take control of one’s life. Margarita Tolentino, DO
Dr. Margarita Tolentino completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where she also served as chief resident.
She received her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University in 2000. She is a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University, where she received her D.O. in 2006. She is an assistant professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Tolentino’s clinical interests include chronic pain management, women’s health/pelvic floor dysfunction, musculoskeletal disorders, and electrodiagnostic medicine.
Joya Van der Laan, NP
Joya Van Der Laan received her masters degree in nursing from North Park University in 2011 (Chicago, IL), completing clinical rotations in adult, women’s and pediatric primary care. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI) in 2004, Joya spent 7 years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago in women’s health, cardiology, and neurology specialty areas. Joya received training as a pain expert nurse at Northwestern, enabling her to provide superior care to patients and also serve as a trusted resource to her colleagues. She holds board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and can see patients of any age.
Joya is passionate about empowering and educating patients to achieve and maintain optimal wellness through various medical, nutritional, integrative, and lifestyle modification approaches.

Grace Ciciora, BSN, RN
Grace Ciciora received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Indiana University in Indianapolis. Her past medical experience includes family and internal medicine. Grace is the program nurse for the Jumpstart to Wellness Program, as well as a nurse at the From Pain to Wellness, LLC medical center.
Through the Jumpstart to Wellness Program, Grace fosters patients’ abilities to manage their pain by education in medication management, sleep hygiene, pain coping tools, and the importance of exercise. She is the liaison between the patient and the clinical staff throughout the entire pain management program journey and advocates for patients’ overall health and wellbeing.
Marianne Brock, LPN
Marianne received her nursing degree from Ohio State Community College in Coshocton, Ohio. She has been an integral part of the From Pain to Wellness family since 2006. Her dedication and commitment to the functional medicine aspect of patient care includes nutritional counseling, medication management, importance of physical activity, and joy in living with guidance towards a healthy lifestyle.
Heather Rajamoney, MPT
Heather Rajamoney received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. She received her Master of Physical Therapy from the Mayo School of Health-Related Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota.
Heather has worked in a variety of clinical settings and has been treating chronic pain for over a decade. She focuses on manual therapy and specifically targeted exercises to improve function and restore optimal health, while educating the patient on their bodies and on ways to manage their own pain condition.
Elena Petrova, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant
Elena’s main goal is to help patients with chronic pain to incorporate sustained physical activities in their lifestyle. She teaches to use exercises, stretches, and simple relaxation techniques to manage pain and improve the quality of life.
Elena has many years of personal experience with Yoga and Pilates, and likes to use this knowledge in therapy. She strongly believes that a better body awareness and small, yet conscious, changes will lead to a healthier life.
Margie Kuchan, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant
Margaret has been a practicing Massage Therapist for 25 years. She returned to school and completed her Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2011. She has additional training in The Total Control Program because of her interest in women’s health issues. She is also trained in the Classic Pilates Method.
